New Family

Jack is 13 weeks old and HUGE. I got on the scale with him today and he is over 14 pounds! That means he has more than doubled his birth weight in 3 months. All that nursing is definitely working, and going straight to his thighs. It was cool this morning so I wanted to put some pants on him - somehow he either has huge pants on new born ones, so I put on the pants that we took him home from the hospital in and they are like tight little shorts, and of course when he wore them at 2 days old, his feet didn't even poke out the bottoms.

We have completely settled into our new family life. Both of us feel just much more relaxed with the new arrangement - we get less stressed (or not at all) with his crying, the sleep is so much more regular. At around 12 weeks, he really became a different baby - there was a crazy growth spurt of 2X a night nursing, and he emerged a good sleeper and just a more alert, aware baby. He wakes up once a night to nurse, but that's after sleeping for 6 hours straight. We are no longer exhausted and we have a routine. He's usually up for the day between 6 and 7, but then goes back to sleep for a couple hours an hour after his feed. Today Damian left the house around 6:30 for a bike ride, so I put Jack in the sling after he ate and he's been sleeping on me for 2 hours. What a nice treat for all involved.

Jack can now reach out and grab things, and hold things if you put them in his hand.

He smiles so much, especially at his father. I mean, to me too, but his best, biggest smiles are for Damian, I love it.

He's big enough now for the normal seat on the stroller, and it's like having a new buggy altogether. So light and zippy without the heavy car seat! And he is so cute. We have still been carrying him in the Bjorn or the slings, but it's nice to also have the stroller when it's warmer out in the afternoons.

Aha, he's awake. Off I go.
