Baby!

This week has been great for Jack - he somehow over the course of a couple of days changed from just being a sweet little package of oblivious cuteness to being an engaged package of cuteness. He looks right into our eyes and is SO SO SO close to giving us a big smile. We bought him a bouncy chair, and he sat in it on his own for about 20 minutes this morning, looking at the animals hanging from it and listening to the little song. It is wonderful to see him growing and learning. It all happens so fast. He just transformed almost overnight from sleeping all the time, to actually being awake at different times and playing, looking, hanging out.

We also got him a bigger bathtub that he loves. So now our evening routine is to let him start sleeping around 6:00. When he wakes up a couple hours later we give him a warm bath which he loves, then I nurse him and play French lullabies. And he sleeps! Some nights it's taken a few tries of convincing him to stay asleep but last night he went down very easily. All Mexican mothers swear by the trick of adding water with boiled romaine lettuce to the bath to calm the baby. Who knows why/how/if this works, but last night Jack slept for 4.5 hours without waking up which is his record, so I am sticking with the lettuce. He also has started falling asleep much easier for the night time feedings. He obviously knows it's nighttime, and gets grumpy if I have to turn the light on for something (usually to observe the diaper situation - though I did manage one last night with the light off). I can see the light at the end of the tunnel where he will truly sleep through the night and not need eat. But until then, I am happy to get up and feed him - it's much easier now than it was even a couple weeks ago.

Lettuce water for the tub?! Now that's a new one! But if it works, then do it. :) He's looking good.
